In cooperation with two new subsidiaries, the Haidlmair Group, Nussbach, Austria, is showing several innovations in the field of hot-runner technology, mold monitoring and lifetime management. FDU Hotrunner GmbH, Frankenthal, Germany, markets the FDU (flat die unit) launched by Haidlmair in 2016, which, according to the manufacturer, is particularly characterized by the fact that, in comparison to circular nozzles, it introduces less shear-induced heat into the melt, shortens the cycle time and reduces the required injection pressure and energy consumption.

New Closure Technology

The latest development of the nozzle, the so-called FDU SLS (slot lock system) is a closure technology, which operates on the principle of a blade lock. The nozzle lock is designed so that the guide and anti-twist lock of the blade do not require a splitting of the melt stream. As a result, cross-sectional areas of up to 175 mm² at the gate are possible, and very large shot volumes, with low shear loads, can be injected into the cavity in a short time. According to FDU Hotrunner, cycle time savings of over 25 % compared to other hot-runner nozzles can be obtained. At the trade show booth, visitors can appraise the technology for the production of containers with wrinkle design.

Mold Monitoring System

The molds by the Austrian mold manufacturer which are shown at various trade show booths are equipped with another product that was created in Haidlmair’s development department, and will be marketed by the new company Digital Moulds GmbH as of September, 2019. This is the Mould Monitoring system. Injection parameters such as cycle time, feed temperature, flow rate, cavity pressure, etc. can be monitored and documented throughout the mold’s lifetime, independent of location. In addition, the monitoring also improves the ability to plan maintenance and services in order to minimize downtimes, and better organize production.
