The Pump Technology Is Decisive
Hahn Temperature Control Technology Shows Impressive Results
A well-known tier 1 automotive supplier recently performed a comparative test of two high-end temperature-control units. Under identical series production conditions in an injection molding application, the plastics processor connected up each of the two products with a flow rate of 50 l/min and 3.8 bar differential pressure, and measured the energy consumption in each case. This was reported by Hahn Enersave GmbH, Wiehl, Germany, in a press release. Its own unit achieved an energy saving of 86 % compared to the model by another European manufacturer that had been used until then.
According to Hahn, the high saving is chiefly due to the pump technology that is used. The temperature-control specialist has relied on high-efficiency rotary pumps for many years. When it introduced the ProTemp advanced series two years ago, Hahn collaborated with the pump manufacturer to improve the flow conditions in the units, thereby significantly improving the efficiency values.
Moreover, the pump speed control available in all current Hahn temperature control units, together with the infinitely variable heating control available as a standard feature, permits economic operation in the partial-load range. The temperature control units can therefore also be used on relatively small machines without any disadvantages to the operator, since the infinitely variable control unit can always adjust the unit to the particular operating situation.
According to Ralf Radke, Managing Partner, another advantage of the pump and control technology employed by Hahn is the large bandwidth of flow rate that can be used. Depending on the pump size, Hahn’s own unit generally offers a significantly higher flow rate under operating conditions compared to other temperature control units with a peripheral gear pump (like the competing unit), and at the same time requires a considerably lower pump installed power. Consequently, in the benchmarking that was performed, Hahn temperature control units provided over twice the flow rate compared to the unit that had been used before.
