Flooding Injection Molded Parts with Color
For the first time, Hennecke GmbH will present their new Colourline machine system at the Fakuma 2017 trade show. Based on Clearmelt technology, users are now able to use color systems to produce scratch-proof and high-quality surface structures with a depth effect on injection molded components. The Multi-Connect plug-and-play system enables fast and clean color change. The production capacity can be enhanced thanks to the system’s modular structure. Visitors will be given the chance to see the unit in live operation at the booth of Engel Austria (A5, booth 5204).
The Clearmelt process was introduced at Fakuma two years ago. Using this technique, thermoplastic molded parts are combined to decor films or veneer elements in an injection molding process, and refined with a transparent polyurethane system. The enhanced process now makes it possible to use color systems for flooding injection molded components. For this purpose, the processing of isocyanate and color was divided into two separate systems. The Colourline unit is fixed to the injection molding machine as a stationary isocyanate unit. The Multi-Connect color module, with its own heating unit, is designed as a compact carriage.
Homogenization and pre-tempering of the individual color systems is provided for by the Multi-Connect parking station, which is able to support up to seven color modules at the same time. If required, the user undocks the module with the desired color from the parking station, transfers it to the isocyanate unit and re-docks it there. The isocyanate unit takes over color module control then.
Each color module has its own mixing head (type MN8 MC) with the isocyanate unit linked to it. This is to make sure each color circulates in its own system to prevent the colors from mixing when changed. This plug-and-play principle reduces the time required for color change to less than 15 min., by eliminating the need to rinse or clean the system. The modular system structure makes it easy to extend production capacities. For example, a system can be enhanced by adding a parking station and seven color modules with more parking stations.
Color pigments are highly abrasive, which is why Hennecke developed the HT30evo piston pump to fit this particular purpose. Each color module is equipped with its individual piston pump. The pump design enables long-term, precise and reproducible production. According to Hennecke, Colourline, along with the Multi-Connect technique, opens up new areas of application to automotive and consumer goods industry, thanks to the outstanding scratch resistance of the surfaces.
