Flat-Line nozzle
Probably the Smallest Hot-Runner Nozzle in the World
Heitec Heisskanaltechnik GmbH in Burgwald, Germany, has designed a new nozzle to enable distances between cavities starting from 5.5 mm. Their small dimensions do not interfere with the details of the form to be produced, which leads to product efficiency unseen in the area of larger models, according to manufacturer information. The product was developed on the basis of the Flat-Line series nozzles. The new Heitec nozzle reduces the minimum distance required, which had hitherto been 7 mm, by 1.5 mm, i.e. by more than 20 %. According to company information, the nozzle is "probably the smallest hot-runner nozzle in the world". The flat design gives new significance to the issue of mold impression. The nozzle with its sealing diameter of 5 mm is equipped with a heating element that can easily be replaced. Also included in the slim body is the well-proven 230 V heating unit and a thermocouple from FeCuNi, which can both be easily replaced.
The nozzle is suited to process any plastic, and even glass fiber-reinforced materials. It is available at lengths between 25 and 60 mm. This type of nozzle has proven successful in the area of high-temperature applications, for molding weights from 3 mg. The manufacturer expects this space-saving Flat-Line nozzle to be of particular interest for electronics productions, where tiny components such as circuit boards or LEDs are to be injection molded at the smallest space (reel to reel). Also precision gearwheels, which have to be onmolded three times around a shaft end, while the center has to be tempered, may be among the possible applications.
