Scalable 15” Disk Filter System
Gels in plastic melts represent a high risk to the part quality. Large-area filters, together with depth filter media provides a remedy. In the development of the scalable 15-inch disk filters, Seebach GmbH, Vellmar, Germany, used in-house simulation software to assign pressure losses to individual assemblies, and make appropriate adjustments.
Avoiding Deflections in the Melt Flow
The aim was to avoid deflections in the melt flow and avoid extremely tight radii, and achieve a uniform flow rate over the installed filter surface area. This results in lifetimes of up to 36 months, to the benefit of the return on investment (ROI). Besides the design tricks, another decisive factor was the pressure loss on system start-up, which could be reduced by about 20%.
