Efficient Filtration of Melts
Ettlinger Kunststoffmaschinen GmbH, Königsbrunn, Germany, is rounding off its portfolio of melt filters for separating out foreign matter. The continuously operating melt filter of the ERF and ECO series can be integrated into almost any extrusion line, according to the manufacturer.
The centerpiece of both series is a rotating filter drum perforated with conical bores, through which the melt flows from the outside inwards. A scraper continually removes the contamination remaining on the drum surface and feeds it to a discharge screw or discharge shaft. The advantages of this design are a constant melt pressure, low melt losses, good mixing and homogenization of the melts and short residence times of the contamination on the filter surface. The type ERF is suitable for separating out foreign matter such as paper, aluminum, wood, silicones or high-melting polymers, from contaminated polyolefins and polystyrenes. Typical fields of application are recycling, sheet and flat film extrusion, as well as profile extrusion. The series is suitable for throughputs of 1500 kg/h (ERF 200), through 3000 kg/h (ERF 250) to 6000 kg/h (ERF 500). Ettlinger has improved the ECO type to provide support for challenging extrusion processes, such as the production of film, panels and other semifinished products. It is suitable for filtration of polyolefins, PET and PA, as well as recycled material containing up to 1,5 % contaminants. Thanks to its special design, according to the manufacturer, films, for example, show fewer black specks, inclusions and fisheyes, so that the film quality overall can be improved. The ECO models are available for maximum throughputs of 1800 kg/h (ECO 200) or 3000 kg/h (ECO 250).
