From Reflective to Effect Pigments
The pigment range for solar reflecting plastics from Eckart GmbH, Hartenstein, Germany, has been expanded so that a broad spectrum of colors can now be covered. Even brown and black shades can be produced with minimum absorption in the IR range. The Energysafe pigments reflect a large proportion of the incident energy of the sunlight, resulting in reduced heating of the plastics. These "cool plastics" have a lower deformation tendency. The Graphite Black reflects 33 % of the sunlight, standard carbon black pigments reflect less than 5 %. The sparkle effect of the Platalux pigments is based on a glass-based silver coating (Fig.).
