New Universal Injection Unit
One for All
In many cases, lightweight construction of plastics parts means thin walls. The differential injection molding units of Dr. Boy GmbH & Co. KG in Neustadt-Fernthal, Germany, enable users to adapt the injection unit to the respective requirement and to the mold: either by fast injection for thin-walled parts or by applying high injection pressures for component geometries that are difficult to fill. This flexibility is a result of constant lists loaded. The lists include the technical performance data of the respective plasticizing unit. "We expect the highest demands for the injection units with 18 and 22 mm screw diameters, because the differential injection mode can be switched on or off as desired", explains Martin Kaiser, head of mechanical design at Boy. "This is how we provide the user with utmost flexibility."
Another benefit of the differential injection units – in addition to the high injection speeds and shorter cycle times entailed – is the fact that the work required for retrofitting is reduced significantly. "Loading of the respective constant lists is in any case faster than a mechanical alteration," states Kaiser. According to manufacturer information, the new universal unit will replace all other units (SP 15, SP 52, SP 92).
