Cooling system for blown film extrusion lines

Engineers at Reifenhäuser Kiefel Extrusion GmbH, Worms, Germany, have developed a new cooling system for blown film extrusion lines. The concept is based on a vertically adjustable cooling ring that operates using a counterflow principle. The cooling air is directed not only upwards as in the conventional approach, but also downwards. Through use of only one cooling ring, it is possible to stabilize the bubble to a high degree while simultaneously increasing output. According to the manufacturer, depending on the film structure, in addition to higher output, numerous other film characteristics such as transparency, gloss and strength are improved.
