Cooling for Head Rests
For an international automotive subcontractor in Germany, Gaudlitz GmbH, Coburg, Germany, developed a mold concept for a head-rest product which contains an integrated conformal cooling system and thus reputedly makes for a more stable process and shortens cycle time by 30 %. The conventional mold design would not have created a stable process for this small plastics processor from Upper Franconia and so could not have guaranteed perfect quality, as the part varies considerably in wall thickness and the mold has many hot areas.
Conformal cooling ensures that the heat balance of the mold is kept constant. Gaudlitz says that the extra outlay involved in mold production very quickly pays for itself in the form of high runs and dependable quality.
