Recycling Is the Basis
Clariant at K 2019

With the aid of special additives, ‧segregation and therefore recycling are ‧facilitated (© Clariant)
With its new additives, Clariant International Ltd., Muttenz, Switzerland, aims to increase recycling rates for post-consumer waste. To achieve this, plastics must be capable of clean segregation by type and their properties and processability must be sufficiently good for the subsequent life cycle. To prevent thermal or oxidative degradation of the polymer during recycling, the antioxidants Cesa-nox can be added during the recycling process.
To maintain or improve the properties of the recycled material, impact modifiers (Cesa-mod) can be used. These reduce brittleness and at the same time increase impact strength. To compensate for a reduction in the molecular weight of the polymer due to processing in the melt state and increase it to at least the level of virgin material, the chain extenders Cesa-extend are a good option. In addition, color properties can be adjusted virtually at will with the Cesa product range, according to the manufacturer.
Clean Segragation
To segregate plastics waste as cleanly as possible by type, dark Cesa-IR colorants can be used, which reflect near-infrared radiation and so can be detected by suitable sensors. To achieve even more precise separation, Clariant developers are working on special markers aimed at the cleanest possible segregation.
