Protective Measures for Polymers
Budenheim at K 2019
Budit 620 is an eco-friendly, halogen-free flame retardant specially developed by Chemische Fabrik Budenheim KG, Budenheim, Germany, for natural fiber-reinforced plastics such as wood-plastic composites (WPC). Other halogen-free flame retardants in other polymers, such as in PU foams (TCPP replacement), polyamides, polyolefins, etc. complete the manufacturer’s product range.
Two-Stage Foaming Process
The company will also present a two-stage foaming process that enables the reaction between the different active substances to be controlled. Through a second foaming stage, micronized cell formation is achieved. According to the manufacturer, the improved melt flow, particularly with complex mold geometries, allows complete filling of the cavity, since the inherent pressure forces the melt into every corner of the mold.
The new Budit F range is said to promote shorter cycle times and eliminate sink marks, which normally produce uneven surfaces and typically lead to yield losses. The new blowing agents are eco-friendly and suitable for injection molding and extrusion. With the Budit L range, Budenheim offers rapid, permanent laser marking through the use of light-sensitive pigments. They have highly selective absorption that delivers very good results in terms of processing speed and marking contrast. According to the manufacturer, the formulations are based on eco-friendly constituents and are therefore safe for applications in the medical and food sectors.
