All-Electric 2K Select 200

Injected Tight

The IMA process for the production of a closed hollow molding in one step is suitable i.a. for developments in medical technology and in the cosmetics and beverage industry (figure: Billion)

Billion SAS, Bellignat, France, focuses totally on assembly injection molding. A complete hollow molding is produced in just one injection molding cycle on an all-electric 2K Select 200 T by in-mold assembly (IMA). The product is a double-wall insulated cup consisting of an inner cup that is encapsulated by a second cup during the process. The latter ultimately forms the outer shell (Fig.).

The pigmented inner cup and the transparent outer shell of co-polyester are produced simultaneously in different cavities and with two injection units. After the mold is opened, it is rotated so that the inner cup is moved to a third station while a handling system positions the outer shell over the inner cup. After the mold has closed, two further preforms (inner cup and outer shell) are simultaneously produced and the two individual parts are welded together in the third cavity with a molded seal around the upper edge of the cup. The finished part is removed and the next cycle continues with the regrouping of cup and shell.
