Flexible and Reproducible Extrusion

battenfeld-cincinnati Germany GmbH, Bad Oeynhausen, Germany, is expanding its BCtouch UX control system, which was introduced at the last K trade fair, with an extensive package of measures. The focus here is on recording and storage of essential process and machine settings to ensure reproducibility of the production processes. Specifically, this includes position detection of the vacuum tank at pipe extrusion, identification of the die set via barcode or RFID chip, and an online centering aid that runs on mobile end devices.
Time losses due to machine downtimes should be avoided through sensor-based machine condition monitoring and process monitoring. If there is a fault, a “Dash” button establishes direct contact with the machine manufacturer’s service department. Basic plant information is transmitted to the service department to speed up problem resolution.
According to the manufacturer, pilot projects are currently underway, in which process data is also exchanged on a cloud basis. To what extent this approach will prevail in the spirit of advancing digitalization, remains to be seen. The modified compact version of the BCtouch UX control system can now also be used on the Plus version of the standard alpha extruder. From the manufacturer’s point of view, a cost-effective universal machine with a modern and intuitive control system is available for production of small technical profiles or small pipes.
Electrically Driven Direct Cutting Machine
With the electrically driven direct cutting machine DTA 160, now a downstream device for pipe extrusion lines is also offered. The reduced weight and compact design facilitate the dynamics and allow high precision and flexibility in chipless cutting of polyolefine and PVC pipes. According to the manufacturer, pneumatically operated clamping jaws ensure stable guidance of the pipe and a clean cut. The cost and effort involved in maintenance and conversion tasks, for example, replacement of the cutting blades, should be reduced through long service life, elimination of hydraulic systems, and easy accessibility.
