Automatically disconnecting quick-coupler systems

Quick-Couplers and Compact Sensors

Automatically disconnecting quick-coupler systems

It has been quite some time now since Priamus System Technologies AG, Schaffhausen, Switzerland, was the first to introduce automatically disconnecting quick-coupler systems for mold cavity pressure and mold wall temperature sensors to the market. Since then the couplings have been used in particular on multi-cavity molds to enable the mold inserts to be removed, e.g. for cleaning, without first having to remove the installed sensors. Furthermore, mold inserts could be exchanged – as is commonly required for small series – and replaced with new inserts while allowing the sensor positions to be varied. Only the position of the coupler remained in the same place.

This idea has now been further developed in the form of "compact sensors" for temperature and pressure measurement in the injection mold. Instead of linking the sensors to the coupling in the mold insert with a connecting cable, the compact sensor is permanently connected to the coupler by means of a spacer. This creates a very compact and easily handled solution which, depending on the application and space requirements, is available in various sizes. The length of the compact sensors is variable and is defined at the time of the order. Particularly in view of the increasing numbers of cavities, the use of mold cavity pressure and mold wall temperature sensors for open and closed-loop control and monitoring of the injection molding process can thus be further simplified.
