Altech (PA+ASA) product line

No Compromises

For cost reasons, the number of unpainted parts in automobile interiors will increase in the future. In spite of the absence of paint, the high quality standards set by OEMs will remain with regard to color, appearance and surface texture.

Depending on the application conditions, many different polymers and polymer blends are used in automobile interiors. Painted trim components made from ABS and PC+ABS blends must usually be employed in areas requiring maximum resistance to light. However, without paint and depending on where they are installed, these components cannot always satisfy the higher standards for surface quality and feel. In particular, matte and scratch-resistant surfaces that convey an impression of quality, which requires highly accurate replication of the mold’s surface, are not always possible to achieve with known materials. In spite of maximum pigmentation, UV stabilization and permanent antistatic behavior, they are reaching the limits of their capability, especially with light interior colors.

New polymer blends are needed to achieve the desired optical, sensory and functional characteristics reliably and to their fullest in their various forms and combinations. Albis Plastic GmbH, Hamburg, Germany, has succeeded in satisfying the variety of existing requirements with a new polymer blend. The newly developed Altech (PA+ASA) product line is especially flexible in terms of use: unreinforced, reinforced and filled grades are available. They are characterized by a balance of stiffness, toughness and other properties required for automotive interior applications.
