Performance-Optimized Hot-Runner Controller
According to supplier Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd., Dudelange, Luxembourg, the new Altanium Neo2, a fully integrated temperature controller in a compact package, provides an exceptional range of functions and user friendliness for this product class. This new control platform offers 2 to 24 zones of control, with 15 amps per zone, making it flexible enough to handle a wide variety of applications. Accurate control is achieved through the application of Active Reasoning Technology (ART), which uses a combination of software and hardware architecture that has a proven track record for other controllers in the Altanium product line. Each individual zone is assigned its own control algorithm, which is determined by diagnosis and is precisely adapted to the needs of the mold. On start-up, zone pairs are determined automatically so that if one sensor fails, its counterpart can step in to allow production to continue, until the sensor can be replaced during scheduled maintenance. This greatly reduces downtime, which directly results in increased productivity.
Altanium Neo2’s precise temperature control (±0.5°C of the setpoint) allows cooling times to be shortened and energy consumption to be reduced, since the operator can choose a lower setpoint compared to controllers with a broader fluctuation band. Easy-to-use, yet sophisticated, diagnostic routines allow tooling issues to be identified and in many cases corrected with minimal downtime. A password-enabled security system prevents access by unauthorized operators and unwanted process changes. The simple single-board architecture of the entire Altanium line eliminates the need to stock and maintain costly spare parts. The design, incorporating 15 amp cards and a robust external heat sink, is built to ensure years of trouble-free operation.
The controller features a 14.5 cm full-color touch screen with an intuitive interface, making temperature control, configuration and monitoring effortless. Multi-language support meets the need of globally active injection molders. Besides its ability to store up to 24 mold set-ups internally, the unit also offers a USB interface for import and export of set-ups. To eliminate costly set-up errors, mold set-ups can be identified and retrieved using the alpha numeric keyboard of the user interface.
