3-D measuring arm: Baces3D

Transportable 3-D Measurement

FriulRobot Srl., Martignacco, Italy, has developed an easy-to-use, portable 3-D measuring arm (type: Baces3D) for different measuring purposes. The arm has five or six axes, depending on the type involved, and, thanks to precision sensors, can be used both for quality assurance and for measuring tasks, or for data acquisition, such as in reverse engineering. The measured data is sent directly to the computer via a USB connection, where it can be further processed. The measurement procedure is controlled via buttons or, as an option, via pedals. The arm is precisely counter-balanced in order to ensure effort-free operation. For weight reasons, it is made of aluminum, and the design gets by without any electric drives at all, so that the arm has to be moved manually. This made it possible to achieve a low weight of only 4kg or so. The portable unit can be equipped with different measuring facilities, such as a laser scanner or a 3-D measuring feeler, and can thus be deployed in different areas. The measuring arm is available with a range of between 2,600mm and 4,200mm, with the measuring and repeat accuracy falling as the range increases.
