Wirthwein: New US Subsidiary
Wirthwein AG, headquartered in Creglingen, Germany, has founded a subsidiary in Fountain Inn, South Carolina, USA. The new company is called South Carolina Plastics, LLC. The name is derived from the Carolina Technical Plastics Corporation, already founded by Wirthwein in North Carolina in 2003. With the second US subsidiary, 16 companies are now united under the Wirthwein AG umbrella.
Sales director Frank Wirthwein, who together with Marcus Wirthwein and Rainer Zepke, was appointed to the managing board, explains the background to the USD 12 million investment: “In South Carolina, we will be manufacturing parts for Brose engine cooling units for installation by BMW in Spartanburg. With our site in North Carolina, we would not be competitive because of the long transport distance. Production of door modules for the Mercedes M and C class will start in early 2014.”
