Wipf Receives Swiss Star Award
The Swiss Institute for Packaging has presented the international Swiss Star awards for new packaging products in the sector at Zurich’s Belvoirpark.
Prize-winning packaging in various categories was singled out for its innovation and creativity. The Swiss Star went to two types of retail packaging, one type of shipping packaging, a labeling system, two prototypes, with two special prizes for design.
Wipf AG, Volketswil, Switzerland, won the Swiss Star prize in the "prototypes" category for the biological materials used in its new self-supporting bag. In an effort to deal with the rising cost of petroleum and the CO2 emissions problem, Wipf designed a new product made with between 80% to 97% biological materials, while retaining full barrier-forming properties. The composite material is made up of a layer of paper, a barrier layer and a bioplastic layer.
