Weidenhammer: Expansion with Composite Cans
As of June 1, Weidenhammer Packaging Group, Hockenheim, Germany, will acquire the composite can business from Greiner Packaging AG, a Swiss subsidiary of Greiner Packaging GmbH of Austria. This move is intended to strengthen the core business of both companies. Weidenhammer is expanding its position as a European market leader in the field of stable, highly decorated packaging, while the Greiner group will concentrate on producing high-quality plastic and plastic-cardboard packaging in Switzerland.
Besides the composite can production, Weidenhammer is also taking over Greiner Packaging’s customer base. However, the production will be transferred from the Diepoldsau, Switzerland site to the nearest factories in Hockenheim and Montanay, France. Greiner Packaging will deploy the Swiss workforce in plastic / plastic-card composite cup production, so no jobs will be lost.
