VDMA: Germany Export Champion

The Fachverband Kunststoff- und Gummimaschinen (KuG, Industrial Association of Plastics and Rubber Machines) within the VDMA (Association of German Machinery and Plant Constructors) announced its figures for FY 2006. The manufacturers of German plastics and rubber machines in 2006 generated a production volume worth EUR 4.9 billion which was 5.5 % more than in the previous year (2005: 4.6 billion). World production of plastics and rubber machines rose in 2006 to EUR 19.6 billion (2005: EUR 18.6 billion). The share of the German plastics and rubber machine constructors remained unchanged at 24.9 %, well ahead of China (13.7 %), Italy (12.4 %), the United States (9.3 %) and Japan (8.8 %). The volume of world exports last year amounted to EUR 14.4 billion (2005: EUR 13.4 billion). The world export share of German plastics and rubber technology in 2006 was 24.9 % (2005: 25 %). Accordingly, Germany is the world export champion in the sector. Japan with a 12.8 % share has lost out in world exports (2005:

14.2 %). Italian exports amounted to 10.7 % (2005: 10.9 %), North American to 7 % (2005: 7.2 %) and Chinese to 5.8 % (2005: 4.5 %)
