VDMA and SPI Cooperate to Promote Resource Efficiency

At the VDMA press event at NPE 2015 in Orlando the VDMA and SPI associations will be reporting on the first results of ISO standardisation for injection molding machines as well as stressing the common values and objectives of sustainability. The NPE Zero Waste Zone provides the perfect forum for learning about resource efficiency in plastics and rubber machinery manufacturing, the key topic of the VDMA Blue Competence sustainability initiative at the fair.

Sustainability is one of today’s big issues. Dwindling resources and a growing world population make it unavoidable. That is why the VDMA launched the Blue Competence sustainability initiative. More than 400 firms have joined the network since it started three years ago. 54 of them are members of the Plastics and Rubber Machinery Association.

The VDMA will be continuing its Blue Competence sustainability initiative at NPE 2015 with a focus on “Resource efficiency in plastics and rubber machinery: the key driver of economic success”. Company representatives will introduce a number of technological approaches to conserving resources. As the organiser of NPE, SPI will be showing a broad range of sustainable technologies at this year’s fair. Here, too, the focus will be on resource efficiency

Thorsten Kühmann, managing director of the VDMA Plastics and Rubber Machinery Association, and Bill Carteaux, CEO of SPI, underline the importance of cooperation between the two associations, especially for standardisation. The two associations want to ensure the greatest possible alignment of technical requirements, especially in matters of safety, in order to simplify machinery deliveries. “Cooperation at the level of ISO/TC 270/WG 1 for injection molding machines represents a key milestone for us,” stresses Thorsten Kühmann. Bill Carteaux believes that the close cooperation has brought a breakthrough regarding the requirement for an additional mechanical device, the “jam bar”, within reach.
