Utech North America Celebrates Outstanding Success
The Utech North America polyurethanes trade show and conference has been heralded as an outstanding success with a sell-out exhibition and conference, a record total attendance and a host of global product launches. The event held at the Charlotte Convention Center, North Carolina, USA on 4 and 5 June attracted well over 100 exhibitors, hundreds of conference delegates and a total of over 1,800 attendees, making it one of region’s largest ever events dedicated to the polyurethanes industry.
International exhibitors included leading manufacturers of polyurethane materials and equipment such as Dow, Wanhua of China, Cannon, Hennecke Inc, DuPont & Tate & Lyle, Evonik, Lanxess, Repi LLC and Honeywell. Visitors included material suppliers, machinery suppliers, PU foam manufacturers and others in CASE segments.
All 200 delegate places at the conference were sold out two weeks in advance, with the keynote speech from Mark Bassett, Global Vice President, Polyurethanes at The Dow Chemical Company drawing the biggest crowd. Mr Bassett urged the industry to focus on “innovation and collaboration.” He told delegates that in the last 20 years, global consumption has nearly doubled with the emergence of new and innovative applications and polyurethane had helped to create a more sustainable world. However he said there was now a need to connect the original chemistry with the next hierarchy of human needs. “Polyurethane is a super-useful molecular material,” he said. “The chemistry is not a limiting factor, we know it can do practically anything. The limiting factor is us.”
Organisers have confirmed that Utech North America will be returning in the first half of 2016 with dates expected to be announced soon. In the meantime the polyurethane industry is focusing its attention on the forthcoming Utech Asia PU China which returns to the Shanghai New International Expo Centre on 3 - 5 September 2014 and Utech Europe which will be held on 14 -16 April 2015 at the MECC in Maastricht, the Netherlands.
