Trumpf: Adding Fiber Lasers
Trumpf GmbH & Co. KG, Ditzingen, Germany, announced that it will be making a formal takeover bid to shareholders of the British laser manufacturer SPI Lasers plc. Trumpf will be offering GBP 0.40 (approx. EUR 0.50) per share, making the bid worth a total of GBP 27.8 million (approx. EUR 34.5 million).
SPI Lasers is one of the leading manufacturers of fiber lasers. The company has a wide product portfolio and thereby complements Trumpf’s program. Other advantages are the worldwide sales network, numerous patents and the manufacturing know-how in SPI lasers. The takeover would also complement the activities of the joint venture between Trumpf and Jenoptik, which has existed since summer of 2007 and manufactures modules for fiber lasers.
