Ticona: LCP Facility in China
Ticona GmbH, Kelsterbach, Germany is to construct a new facility for the liquid crystalline polymer Vectra (LCP) within the Celanese chemicals complex in Nanjing, China. Work will start in the first half of 2009. The plant, with a capacity of 7,000 metric tons per year, is planned to start operations in 2010. Ticona already produces the long-fiber-reinforced thermoplastics Celstran (LFT) and the ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene GUR (UHMW-PE) in Nanjing. The GUR plant came on stream in July 2008; a new compounding line is slated to start production in early 2009. Besides manufacturing high-performance plastics, the company also offers on-the-spot technical and commercial support and a development center for customer applications in Shanghai.
