Songwon: Expansion of Isobutylene Facility
Songwon Industrial Co. Ltd., Ulsan, South Korea, has expanded the capacity of its new isobutylene (IBL) production facility located at the Maeam site in South Korea, which just started production in May 2009, from 30.000 tons to 40.000 tons.
According to Songwon, the proprietary TBA (t-butanol) cracking technology has proven to be very effective, allowing the company to produce isobutylene extremely efficiently, reducing energy consumption compared to traditional processes. This will allow Songwon to continue to deliver on their program of back-integration, with the aim to further increase reliability and reduce their exposure to volatile market prices of raw materials based on oil.
