SMS: Sale of Extrusion Business
After the sale of Battenfeld Spritzgießtechnik, the injection moulding business of SMS, in October 2006, the group has now also sold its extrusion business. Battenfeld Extrusionstechnik and Cincinnati Extrusion have been sold to Triton, an independent European private equity investor.
The sale is a consequence of the SMS group’s strategy of focusing on its core businesses of metallurgical machinery and plant production under the SMS metallurgy brand. Triton is aquiring all the companies in the SMS group that manufacture machinery and plant equipment for tube and long product extrusion and related areas. Overall, these companies achieve sales of some 200 million EUR with around 1000 employees around the world.
The US company Battenfeld Gloucester remains with SMS.
With offices in Frankfurt, Stockholm, London, Triton has 650 million EUR in equity capital available for investments, provided by prominent German, Nordic and international institutional investors. Triton’s strategy is to invest alongside and support the management teams in acquired companies in the development of market leading, international businesses.
