Masterbatch Verband: Supply Shortage for Masterbatches
Due to the current economic situation, the manufacturers of masterbatches have to face shortages in the supply of all major raw materials, such as polymers, additives and coloring agents. This information was published by the association of masterbatch producers (Masterbatch Verband) in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
The 2009 global economic crisis led to significant reductions in the capacities for numerous basic chemicals and even to temporary shutdowns of entire plants in 2009. Additionally, less capital was locked up over the entire value-added chain, which frequently implied reductions in storage capacities. The economic recovery of the first quarter of 2010 led to higher demands for chemicals all over the world. For the reasons mentioned, however, these demands are still difficult to meet entirely, at present. It is difficult or even impossible for suppliers to satisfy customers on short notice. As the economy is still instable, producers of masterbatches see the possibility of supply shortages in the future.
