Macchi: Managing Director Found Dead
Alessandro Macchi, managing director of Italian extrusion equipment specialist Macchi SpA, was found dead on 2 November. Apparently he died of shot wounds and was found in his villa in Rapallo, east of Genoa.
According to local newspapers, his longtime companion, Johanna Malgorzata Lohninger, has been charged with his murder as the result of a domestic dispute. She left a suicide note and had taken an overdose of drugs, but has recovered and been arrested.
Alessandro Macchi, 46, was the son of Luigi Macchi, the founder of the company, based in Venegono Inferiore, north-west of Milan. Specialising in commercial matters, he joined the firm when he was 19 and came to be the driving force behind the firm’s development to its current status as a leading extruder manufacturer with 100 employees and annual turnover of about euro 55 million from customers around the world. Luigi Macchi is still actively involved in the company, as are a second son and daughter.
