Large Fakuma Exhibitors With Curbed Euphoria

Some Companies Refrain From "Active" Participation or Not at All

The organisers of the Fakuma are preparing for the opening of the trade fair in October 2020. Based upon this decision, exhibitors such as Arburg, for example, are currently planning their trade fair appearances without, however, knowing the final implementation concept, which should be available by the end of July at the latest.

However, in view of the Corona pandemic that has not yet been overcome, some major exhibitors have already announced that they will reduce their participation to a minimum this year ("not actively participating"), or even cancel it completely. Here is an overview of such decisions made by some of the major exhibitors:

No "active participation"

  • Engel Austria

The Austrian manufacturer of plastics machinery will not be actively participating at the Fakuma in the usual manner this year. The management is making this decision in light of the unforeseeable further development of the Corona pandemic. Even with a hygiene concept and a limited number of trade fair visitors per day, the company cannot rule out the risk of infection with Covid-19.

  • KraussMaffei

As a company spokeswoman explained when asked, KraussMaffei will be taking part in the Fakuma 2020 if the show actually takes place. She went on to say: "However, we won't be taking part as usual, but rather with a more digital presentation of our products and services and a reduced number of contacts on site. We assume that our customers are also planning their trade fair visit rather cautiously and wait-and-see, and we see it as our duty to offer both our customers and our employees the greatest possible security." In addition, the organizer has not yet submitted a hygiene concept, which makes detailed planning of the presence difficult.

  • motan-colortronic

"The management of motan-colortronic has decided against active participation in the usual form at the Fakuma 2020 due to the continuing critical situation in connection with the corona pandemic," the company announced on 7 July. The exhibitor regrets this step very much, but does not see any alternative due to the current situation.

  • Sepro-Gruppe

The Sepro Group, La Roche sur Yon, France, plans to significantly reduce its activities at the Fakuma if it takes place as planned from 13 to 17 October 2020. Sepro has recently decided not to exhibit any robot solutions or automation systems and will consequently reduce the number of employees attending the trade fair.

  • Sumitomo (SHI) Demag

The management and employee representatives of the German sites of Sumitomo (SHI) Demag have voted: If the Fakuma takes place this year, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag will not have an active presence at the fair. Following the motto: "Act Responsibly: Protection as the highest priority", the machine manufacturer is putting the protection of employees, visitors and customers first. Therefore, neither employees nor machine exhibits will be sent to Friedrichshafen.

  • Wittmann Gruppe

At the end of June, the Wittmann Group, which includes Wittmann Battenfeld and Wittmann Kunststoffgeräte, among others, announced that it would not "actively" participate in Fakuma 2020.

Complete cancellation

  • The Swissplast Group, Sargans/Switzerland, according to a press release dated 1 July, will completely forgo participation in the Fakuma in October 2020. According to its own statements, the owner-managed company with four plants in Europe is one of the largest in the thermoforming sector.
