The specialty chemical group Lanxess held its New Year’s reception this year under the slogan “Innovative Mobility”. At Berlin’s Academy of Arts, around 250 top-flight representatives of politics, industry, science and the media met in mid-January to discuss trends and the opportunities that are opening up. The main speaker and guest of honor was Dr. Peter Ramsauer, German Minister of Transport, Building and Urban Development.

Dr. Axel C. Heitmann, chairman of the managing board of Lanxess AG, Leverkusen, Germany, used his succinct welcoming address to venture an optimistic look into the future. Though the official business figures for 2011 will not be published until March, it’s fair to assume that operating profit has increased by over 20%. The current year, too, seems to be getting off to a good start. Lanxess is profiting from the mobility megatrend and sees this as an important building block in its growth strategy. As the world’s biggest manufacturer of synthetic rubber for the tire industry, Lanxess supplies key components of low roll-resistance tires and, as a leading supplier of engineering plastics, it offers weight-saving materials for automotive engineering.
