Japanese Chemical Group Restructures Business
Sekisui Moves Closer to Europe
Sekisui Chemical Co. Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, strengthens its global structure with a regional headquarters strategy. The company engages 211 companies and 26,080 employees around the world, with a net sale of around EUR 8700 million in 2017.
Regional headquarters are established in Europe, America, South East Asia and China. The local offices are to enhance the corporate functions and support all regional businesses.
The Japanese Company in Europe
Instead of having all functions centralized in Japan, the company moves closer to its subsidiaries and provides assistance to European business by setting Sekisui Europe B.V. (SEBV) as European headquarters. Located in Roermond, Netherlands, the regional headquarters will support the European subsidiaries, strengthen the corporate governance and disseminate the company’s philosophy.
Japanese and European team members act as close contact persons for the regional subsidiaries by deploying corporate guidance in terms of Legal, Accounting, HR, IT and Communications throughout the region.
Hiroshi Kobayashi, Managing Director of Sekisui Europe B.V.: “The companies are the experts of the technologies and products manufactured in Europe. However, despite their independence and different businesses, we believe that there is yet undiscovered potential for synergies which would have positive effects for the customers.”
European Subsidiaries Work Closer together
The main objective of the regional headquarters will be internal organizational tasks to unify the Sekisui subsidiaries in Europe and strengthen the governance throughout the region. Since the 1960s, the Japanese company has done various acquisitions and has had different sales bases all over Europe – but while business developed, governance was still centralized in Japan causing a gap in regional knowledge. Due to the internal partnership-oriented approach, the European subsidiaries work closer together and offer comprehensive solutions and valuable services.
