IDI Composites: Concentration in the BMC/SMC Sector

IDI Composites International, Noblesville, IN, USA, has acquired the former production plants of Menzolit Compounds International GmbH, Heidelberg, Germany, from the German strategic investor Senata (previously All-Finanz). The plants are located in Vineuil, France, and Shanghai, China, and produce thermoset bulk molding compounds (BMC) and sheet molding compounds (SMC).

IDI Composites already has facilities in North America, the United Kingdom and China. The acquisition of these two additional sites in Europe and Asia makes the company the world’s largest supplier of thermoset molding compounds and will enable it to react faster to the needs of its growing global customer base. It will also provide operational reach to take account of the relatively short storage life of BMC and SMC.
