Husky: Record Year for PET Orders
Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd., Bolton, Ontario, Canada announced that orders of preform molds and systems increased more than 13% in fiscal 2007 and were the highest in company history. This represents the second consecutive year in which Husky has achieved a record breaking number of orders for this market.
“This last fiscal year was a positive one for Husky, particularly in our beverage packaging business,” said Jeffrey MacDonald, Husky’s Vice President of Beverage Packaging. “All segments of the market performed strongly—bottled water, aseptic juices, hot-filled teas and sports drinks all grew at double-digit rates and all of our geographic markets grew beyond expectations.”
Husky attributes the strong order levels to a robust market and improvements to HyPET performance. The improvements included in-mold and post-mold cooling improvements, system dry-cycle reductions and hot runner refinements that have allowed a reduction in cycle times of more than 25% compared to 2003, the year HyPET was launched.
Husky expects further growth in the global beverage packaging market as new applications are being converted to plastic and as more consumers in developing economies purchase packaged beverages. The anticipated surge in thread and body lightweighting activity will also drive growth.
