The winners of the 2014 Chemical Industry Awards were announced on Thursday 26 June and Huntsman’s titanium dioxide manufacturing site at Greatham in the North East of England walked off with three of the most coveted awards. The team at the Greatham site won the ABB Manufacturing & Resource Efficiency Award, the Environmental Leadership Award and was joint winner of the most prestigious award of the evening The Company of the Year Award.
On The Company of the Year Award the judges commented; “We were happy to see how the Greatham site engages with the workforce, and is taking action to become ‘Employer of Choice’. This has seen over 40 people joining the company over the last two years in addition to being one of the largest sponsors of apprentices in the region, with 30 apprentices working at the site in a variety of roles.”
Greatham site director Gary Conroy said; “Winning the Responsible Care Award last year was a great achievement, however to win three awards this year amongst such stiff competition was fantastic. The awards recognize the hard work, commitment and results that the Greatham site has delivered and reinforces the fact that we have a very gifted and committed team. We are all very proud.”
