Hispack: Exhibits Covered the Entire Packaging Life Cycle
The International Packaging Show Hispack was held jointly with Barcelona Food and Beverage Technologies, Bta, from 11 to 15 May in Barcelona, Spain. This combination proved to be a successful synergy, since the food and beverage industry is the main consumer of packaging, and increased the capacity to attract trade visitors, the total number reaching 52,884 while 700 direct exhibitors, representing over 2,500 companies from 20 countries, participated in the triennial show.
49,173 of the registered visitors at Hispack&Bta were national, the 3,711 international visitors came mainly from Portugal, followed by France, Italy and Germany. This year, trade visitors to Hispack&Bta came for the first time from Saudi Arabia, Benin, Chad, Costa Rica, Jordan, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Pakistan and Thailand.
Hispack 2009 set new packaging trends, exhibiting more efficient, sustainable and environmentally-friendly machinery, materials and services. Visitors were able to see 100% biodegradable packaging manufactured from potato or corn starch; plastic bottles weighing little more than 6 g to reduce the use of contaminating materials; intelligent packaging and with natural antioxidants such as vitamin E to lengthen the life of foodstuffs; new RFID label solutions for the areas of traceability and logistics; more versatile, faster machinery and processes; and the latest advances in digital signage for Point of Purchase Advertising, among others.
