German Plastics and Rubber Machinery Reports Increased Exports
According to the German VDMA Plastics and Rubber Machinery Association, the German plastics and rubber machinery manufacturers could again record a remarkable export growth in the first half of 2017. In total, German exports increased by 3.8 % and reached a value of EUR 2.4 billion.
Remarkable Development in China, Decline in Europe
The US, which bought the most German plastics and rubber machines for EUR 402.2 million (plus 4.2 %), keep leading the field. Like last year, the second place goes to China with EUR 310.7 million (plus 19.2 %). Mexico could record a growth of 26.4 % to EUR 137.4 million, another strong increase for the country. “All three of our most important customer markets recorded an increase above average,” says Ulrich Reifenhäuser, Chairman of the VDMA Plastics and Rubber Machinery Association. “The very positive development in China is striking,” he adds.
In the same period of the previous year, the German plastics and rubber machinery manufacturers had to experience a noticeable decline of 22.1 per cent to back then EUR 260.7 million in China. “Many member companies already have their own production locations in China, which accounts for the export decline of last year,” says Thorsten Kühmann, Managing Director of the VDMA Plastics and Rubber Machinery Association. “However, due to this and in the light of the revaluation of the Euro compared to the Chinese Renminbi, the export increase is even more encouraging,” he continues.
Two other important sales markets, Brazil and Russia, also show a considerable upward trend. The exports to Russia could be increased by 43.4 % to EUR 59.3 million, those of Brazil even by an impressive 78.2 % to EUR 35.3 million.
Exports to the European Union, the most important connected sales region for German machines, decreased to EUR 848 million compared to the first half of 2016. This corresponds to a decline of 6.1 % compared to the previous year. The exports to Poland, France and Italy, which buy most of the German plastics and rubber machines within the EU, were all declining.
Positive Outlook for Injection Molding
The German manufacturers of injection molding machines can look back at a very satisfactory first half-year 2017, with regards to export figures. Exports rose by 9.4 % compared the first half-year 2016 and reached a value of EUR 475.8 million. The exports to France and Poland should be highlighted, which gained 51.9 % and 10.6 %, respectively. However, the distribution to China (plus 43.0 %) and Mexico (plus 41.3 %) also strongly improved.
