DSM, Heijmans and Fibercore: Award for Composite Bridge
DSM, Heijmans and Fibercore received recognition from the Building & Infrastructure industry for their A27 composite bridge project, winning an innovation award at the InfraTech 2013 show in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The companies installed in 2012 a 140 m long, light weight bridge for heavy traffic over one of the busiest roads in the Netherlands. Interference with ongoing traffic was minimal during this smooth installation, which was directly linked to the low bridge weight.
By giving the so-called “Halftime” innovation award, the Jury praised the innovative approach to bridge design and construction, enabling a high bridge installation speed and a turnaround of less than 48 hours. While traffic was able to run for most of the time, the companies could put in place a structure with great mechanical integrity that can resist the elements for many years to come.
