DMS Scientist Selected for J. : Mattiello Lecture 2009

Royal DSM N.V., the global Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company headquartered in the Netherlands, announced that Ad Overbeek, Global Science Manager DSM NeoResins+, , Heerlen, Netherlands, has been selected by The Federation of Societies for Coatings Technology (FSCT) to deliver the 2009 Joseph J. Mattiello Memorial Lecture. The award, considered by many to be the most prestigious in the international coatings scientific community, recognizes individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the field of coatings science and technology. The lecture forms the focal point of the Mattiello Symposium and will be held on Tuesday 28 April 2009 during the FSCT’s CoatingsTech Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States.

Ad Overbeek, was educated at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands and is Global Science Manager and Competence Manager ‘Aqueous Polymer Technology’ at DSM NeoResins+. Throughout an illustrious career that spans 24 years at the forefront of surface coatings science, he has amassed many notable accolades including 53 published patents, and also received the European Coatings Award (2001) and the Golden Coat Award (1995). Overbeek’s work has focused on the contribution of polymer technology to coatings developments and performance. In particular he has led a number of advancements in environmentally responsible coatings and has been highly instrumental in driving the industry’s transition to waterborne resin technology, underlining DSM NeoResins+ leadership position in this field globally. A significant factor in this has been the company’s ability to successfully convert a high number of patents and scientific developments from its R&D resources into commercial realities.
