Degussa: Polyamide Capacity in China
Next year, Degussa AG, Düsseldorf/Germany, plans to set up a polycondensation plant for special polyamides and a compounding plant at its multi-user site in Shanghai. Construction will start in March or July 2007, once official approval has been received. The two plants are scheduled to start production in January 2008. The single-digit euro investment in local production facilities will significantly expand the presence of Degussa’s High Performance Polymers (HP) Business Unit in Asia, particularly in the growth market of China. The business unit will use the products produced at the new plant in China to serve existing markets and open up new niche applications. Because the compounding plant is downstream of the polymerisation plant, it will be able to adapt moulding compounds directly to local needs. HP is also planning to build a technical centre on the Shanghai site to support marketing activities. This will enhance HP’s worldwide technical customer support from 2007.
