CSEMP: Key Figures in 2006
The Chambre Syndicale des Emballages en Matière Plastiques (CSEMP), France, has announced the 2006 key figures for plastic packaging and film. The French plastic packaging and film industry achieved 5.375 billion EUR in sales in 2006 (2005: 5.257 billion EUR). The industry posted 0.89% net income in 2006 (2005: 0.93%) and ploughed back 6.30% of its sales into capital expenditure into 2006. Nevertheless, situations varied widely from sector to sector. Whereas food packaging recorded 4.90% tonnage growth and the cosmetics & perfume sector posted an over 11% rise, plastic film went through a 4.5% decrease due to checkout bags and expanded polystyrene continued its slump, with a 6% drop per year since 2004. In 2006, the sector includes 304 companies (with more than 20 employees) and gathers 36 370 employees.
