QCP to Build Circular Polymer Plant in The Netherlands
QCP - Quality Circular Polymers, located at Urmond, The Netherlands, plans to build a new circular polymer plant at the Chemelot site in The Netherlands. QCP was founded in April 2014 and will provide brand owners and plastics convertors with polymers of high and consistent quality, based on used plastics.
The nameplate capacity of the plant will be 100,000 tonne per year. The total investment amounts to EUR 75 million, of which EUR 35 million in the first phase, planned to go live by the end of 2015. QCP will create up to 100 direct and 200 to 300 indirect jobs. Focus will be on PP (polypropylene) and PE (polyethylene).
QCP is partnering with leading technology providers for the engineering and construction of the first phase of its plant in Chemelot. B+B Anlagenbau GmbH, Willich, Germany, will provide all equipment for the preparation process from the incoming bales of post consumer plastic waste to the sorted clean flakes. KraussMaffei Berstorff GmbH, Hanover, Germany, will supply the extruders that transform the polymer flakes into high quality polypropylene and polyethylene compounds. AZO N.V., Antwerp, Belgium, will connect the material flows by providing all material handling and transport systems enabling an automated logistic process.
Huub Meessen, CEO of QCP, is very positive about this unique partnership with these three leading technology providers: “Apart from B+B, which has a long track record in the circular polymer industry, it is good to see that leading players from the virgin polymer industry, like KraussMaffei Berstorff and AZO are very determined to step into the world of sustainable polymers”. Marc Houtermans, COO of QCP, adds: “This partnership will combine the best of both worlds: new technology from the upcoming circular polymer industry with proven technology and extensive experience from the traditional compounding industry.”
