Conference on Bio-based Materials with Start-up Day and Innovation Award

The 8th International Conference on Bio-based Materials (“Biowerkstoff-Kongress”), organized by nova-Instiute, Huerth, Germany, will take place on April 13–15 in Cologne, Germany. The organizer expects 250 participants and 30 exhibitors mainly from industry. Due to last year's great success and for a second time the conference will count with a third day especially dedicated to start-ups with ground-breaking innovations.

In 2014 eight start-ups presented themselves to industry and investors for the first time. The companies had been invited to present their technologies and latest developments in the field of biotechnology and related technologies. This year’s start-ups session will feature up to 12 new innovative start-ups. Sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Industrial Biotechnology Cluster CLIB2021 the day will start with investors, providing an insight into their incentives and experiences working with start-ups in the biotech sector. The selected start-ups will afterwards have a chance to present their innovations and get in contact with potential partners and investors.

Start-ups interested in presenting their companies can get into contact with Dipl.-Ing. Florence Aeschelmann, florence.aeschelmann@nova-institut.de.

Innovation Award

The Innovation Award “Bio-based Material of the Year 2015” will also be awarded during the Conference. To honor and acknowledge new developments in the innovative bio-based chemicals and materials industry, every year the participants of the conference choose the winner of the Award, sponsored by Coperion.

The focus of the award is on bio-based materials in a new specific application, which have had (or will have) a market launch in 2014 and 2015. A jury will nominate the outstanding "Top 6" applicants prior to the conference. The chosen candidates will have the opportunity to present their innovation both in a presentation and at a special exhibition space and win the conference’s expert audience over.

Companies can still apply, deadline for applications is February 16, 2015.
