Biesterfeld a Founding Member of the International Chemical Trade Association

In February 2016, the International Chemical Trade Association (ICTA) has been established and registered by the coalition of the European Association of Chemical Distributors (Fecc), the American National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD), the British Chemical Business Association (CBA), the German Verband Chemiehandel (VCH) and a number of major chemical distributors. Biesterfeld AG, Hamburg, Germany, is a founding member of the new organization.

The ICTA was set up to fill the need of having a worldwide chemical association coordinating work on topics and programmes of international interest across chemical trade associations. This includes regulations that concern the handling, transport, management and security of chemicals. These regulations are increasingly being discussed on a global scale, often on a United Nations (UN) level. In these cases, the ICTA will speak for the chemical distribution worldwide. The association will also support UN initiatives like Global Compact.

Carsten Harms, executive board member of Biesterfeld AG, joined the foundation in Brussels. He emphasizes: “Our membership allows an exchange of information to all matters relating to the chemical distribution.” He says: “We subscribe to the goals and values of the association. We, too, would like to globally promote the initiatives for responsible handling of chemicals and the idea of sustainability. That is why we join ICTA right from the start.”
