Bayer MaterialScience: More Polyurethanes in China
Bayer MaterialScience recently brought the first MDI (diphenylmethane diisocyanate) plant on stream at the Bayer integrated site in Shanghai. The plant with a capacity of 80,000 t/a produces monomeric and polymeric MDI from crude MDI. A backward-integrated MDI plant with a capacity of 350,000 t/a is currently under construction. When completed as scheduled in 2008, the plant will be the biggest single-train MDI complex in the world. The company also plans to build a TDI plant with a capacity of 160,000 t/a on this site, slated for completion in 2009.
