BASF: Record Year 2007
At the annual press conference in Ludwigshafen, Germany, BASF SE announced yet another record year. Thanks to organic growth and the very positive development of the acquired businesses, BASF posted sales of almost EUR 58 billion (an increase of 10 %) and income from operations (EBIT) before special items of more than EUR 7.6 billion (an increase of 5 %) in 2007. The company earned its highest ever premium of EUR 2.9 billion on its cost of capital and again grew profitably and faster than the market.
In the Plastics segment higher volumes and price increases improved sales and EBIT before special items. Sales rose by approx. 6 % to EUR 13.5 billion while earnings increased by 9 % to EUR 1.3 billion. The strongest growth for that segment was found in the region Asia Pacific where new plant startups in the Plastics and Performance Products segments benefited from the above-average growth in the Asian markets.
BASF expects that its business will also develop positively in 2008 and sets itself ambitious goals.
