Avantium and Danone sign development partnership
Danone Research, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and Avantium Technologies B.V., Amsterdam, have entered into a Joint Development Agreement for the development of PEF bottles. It is the second cooperation of that kind after the partnership with The Coca-Cola Company. Bottles made of this new material PEF are 100 % bio-sourced and deliver superior functional properties versus conventional PET technology regarding light weighting potential, barrier and thermal properties.
The agreement is part of Avantium’s commercialization strategy to further co-develop the YXY technology for producing PEF bottles. This chemical-catalytic technology converts carbohydrates from different sources into bio-based polymers. The companies’ objective is to contribute to the emergence of a new renewable material generation which will not be in direct competition with food.
In longer term Avantium will license its YXY technology to enable large scale, world-wide production and use of its bio-sourced plastic materials.
