Augusto Guimarães & Irmão Celebrates 100th Anniversary
On 7th November, AGI-Augusto Guimarães & Irmão, Lda., Portuguese distributor of plastic raw material and equipment for the plastics industry, hosted a gala to celebrate its 100th anniversary. More than 350 customers and suppliers joined the AGI team to commemorate the day at the Alfândega Congress Centre in Porto, Portugal.
Founded on 26th October of 1915 in the center of Porto, AGI has taken since its foundation the characteristics of a family business. A business born as a small company, but which has grown and asserted itself within the Portuguese market, currently going through a consolidation stage within the Iberian Peninsula. AGI-Augusto Guimarães & Irmão, Lda was dedicated at the time of its founding, "to the business of hay products and any other products that may be useful to society," according to the constitution deed. But a few decades later, AGI made its debut in the plastics sector, a market in which it operates until today with the distribution of raw materials and equipment for the plastics industry.
Since 1987, AGI’s headquarters are located in Gulpilhares, Vila Nova de Gaia. Without losing the structure of a family business, and after going through turbulent periods such as World War I, World War II and the revolution of April 1974, it is currently managed by the 3rd and 4th generation of the Guimarães family. Thirteen years ago, the joint venture with Guzmán Group, a major player in the plastics sector in Spain, helped to start the process of internationalization and to expand the business into new areas of business.
