Arkema: Composite Wins JEC Award
On the occasion of the JEC 2013 show, Arkema Group, Colombes, France, launches Altuglas Composite, the first new thermoplastic resin which allows the manufacturing of composite parts on the same equipments and processes as thermoset composites. The resulting composite parts exhibit mechanical properties similar to those of thermoset parts, but their thermoplastic nature brings the added advantages of thermoformability and recyclability. With this major innovation, Arkema and its partners have won a JEC Award in the “Thermoplastics” category.
Altuglas Composite is an acrylic material, developed within an R&D partnership between Arkema and Pôle de Plasturgie de l’Est (PPE), Saint-Avold, France. To optimize Altuglas Composite formulations, Arkema and PPE have partnered with specialists in the composite industry – MVC (Brazil), Chomarat (France) and 3B-fibreglass (Belgium).
